Member Meeting

October 8 @ 9:00 am - 12:00 pm

The Silver Center will be open by 8:30 to allow members who clerk for judges to have the opportunity to join the meeting.

9:00 All Bench Show items in place – entry cards (link below)* completed, entry on table.

Floral Design Schedule
“Eat Your Veggies”:  Using fresh, floral plant material create an arrangement incorporating uncut vegetables.  Not to exceed 18 inches in any direction.

Horticulture Schedule
You may make one entry into each class.

The Last Hurrah:

Class 1:  Cut Specimen: one blooming stem, spike or spray from an annual/perennial/biennial/tuber/rhizome/bulb, etc. from exhibitor’s garden. Length of cut specimen is not to exceed 24” from top of container to tip. To be shown in a clear glass container, provided by the exhibitor.

Class 2: Three small vegetables of the same variety grown by the exhibitor. (for example,  3 Sungold cherry tomatoes or 3 Cherry Belle radishes or 3 Blue Lake pole beans). To be exhibited on a paper plate provided by the Horticulture committee.

Class 3: One large vegetable grown by exhibitor. (eggplant, squash, large tomato, pepper, carrot) To be exhibited on a paper plate provided by the Horticulture committee.

Autumnal Beauty: Please use a container that will not topple over

Class 4: Berried branch not to exceed 24” from top of container to tip of branch.

Class 5: Coned branch not to exceed 24” from top of container to tip of branch.

Class 6: Fall foliage branch not to exceed 24” from top of container to tip.

Your Indoor Garden: Par: An exhibit of exceptional horticultural merit that has been owned and grown by exhibitor for a minimum of 6 months. Entries will be judged individually against perfection. Containers must not exceed 14” diagonally. Provide saucer if necessary.

Each meeting, have in-depth discussion of one discipline’s entries- Floral, Hort, Photo- what was successful / what needs help.  Though points will be recorded – they will no longer be announced.

11:00 Speaker: Lorraine Ballato – Vegetables “Contained”
As an Advanced Master Gardener, Lorraine works with a sizable team of gardeners in an organic fruit and vegetable garden in Fairfield County.  Each season, they grow and donate over 1200 pounds of produce to homeless shelters and food banks.  Followed by Q & A

Noon – Final Appreciation of Bench Show and depart
